To protect and preserve Lakota traditions, beginning in the summer of 2004 thru the present day a group of volunteers held workshops on the Cheyenne River Reservation. The volunteers traveled from Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico and Oregon. The workshops are free and supply not only materials for making pre 1852 bows, but food and lodging as well.

The workshops have had historically small, but increasing attendance each year. Financial resources are meager as the program expands; the need expands for food, lodging and supplies. During the 2009 bow camp we served approximately 1200 meals and supplied bow staves and arrows to 150 kids, teens and adults interested in making bows. We expect 2011 to be even bigger.
